Date Night at Goodwill

A few Monday evenings ago my MIL offered to babysit so that Mark and I could go out to dinner together - alone. Of course I wasn't going to turn that offer down. In true fashion for us, hubby suggested instead of heading home after dinner we go to the Goodwill. Of course I wasn't going to turn that offer down either! So off we went. We hit 2 Goodwill stores, had a ton of laughs and brought home some great stuff. When I heard "You are shut off" from Mark, I knew the fun was done.

At our first stop he (yes, I said HE) spotted a PINK PYREX CASSEROLE for sale. Guess what? I didn't buy it. Nope! I actually left it there for someone else to find. You see...I already own two. And since GW is sorta pricey these days - $5.99 - I didn't want it for resale either. Now $5.99 may not seem like a lot, but at Goodwill it is. I'm not the only one who thinks Goodwill is overpriced either. While we were shopping we overheard some ladies complaining about the prices. Of course that didn't stop me from buying things - but I was more selective if you will. Here are some highlights.

Pyrex "Butterfly Gold" cups. They were only 25 cents each!

Some milk glass footed serving dishes, some planters and a metal rack. The log planter is a favorite. I will show more pictures of that when I show my Easter display.

I'm using this bowl to hold jelly beans. It was made by Westmoreland Glass.

I'm using this one to hold our Resurrection Eggs. It is Fenton. If you don't know what Resurrection Eggs are let me show you. They are great for teaching kids about the real meaning of Easter. You can buy these at Family Christian Book Store.

I'm using the little green rack on my counter to hold some old dishes. Figured I might use these if they were out to see - time will tell if my theory holds true.

I love this milk glass dish shaped like a strawberry. There was only one. Hannah uses it now to eat her breakfast in style!

A set of vintage pillow cases in pink gingham.

I love this little dish that we found. I think it was only 25 cents. Perfect to hold pins or your rings when you are washing the dishes.

I also bought a bag of vintage chalk. The pack on the left "huga-color" was in the bag. The box on the right I have had for a while - it came from an antique store several years ago.

Hubs spotted a bag of vintage Christmas ribbon. Inside the bag was 6 spools. I'm a sucker for vintage advertising and packaging so I was very pleased when I got home and saw the Santa. All made in the USA.
There was more but at the risk of looking like a hoarder I will spare you pictures of the rest. All in all it was a ton of fun. Monday is my new favorite day to hit the thrift stores. Not many people in the store so you can shop in peace and the selection was pretty good.

Happy Thrifting!
Katie

More Green

Some more fun collections in green!

#1. A tower of books about gardening & flowers
#2. Not green but I threw it in because it has the words Spring & March.
#3 A green depression glass knife. Something I've never used but I think it is pretty neat.
#4, #5 #6, #7. Some green things in my kitchen.
#8 Just bought this pitcher yesterday at the thrift store. It is a darker green than I normally like which tells me it may be 1970's???, but it is in such nice condition I didn't want to walk away from it. It is going for sale.
#9. Some green depression glass cake plates.

Sorry the pics are a bit dark and gloomy. It has been overcast and gray here most days. Typical Pittsburgh weather I'm sorry to say.

DREAM

The etsy shop is up and running. Yeah! I am unearthing some interesting items to list there. Truthfully I only choose things that I think are "cool" to sell in the shop. That may not be the best way to do business, but everything that I list will be something that I like or would have in my home or use in a project. As a matter of fact, everything was purchased by me for me at one time....and is now moving on.

Don't forget that I am offering 15% off during the month of March for my blog readers. Use the coupon code below at check out to receive your discount.

These translucent letter tiles are for sale right now. Aren't they pretty sitting in front of a glass window? I can make any word you want - provided I have the letters :) -

I am also selling a few cards made from original antique photographs. I love this one. A HAPPY summer day!

Click HERE to get to the shop and see what else is available.

Thanks!

Christmas in March

My friend Cindy and I finally got around to exchanging our Christmas gifts to one another. My gift to her has been sitting on my coffee table since December - all decked out in a Christmas bag. Oh well - better late than never. I sorta like exchanging gifts late because you can actually appreciate them after all of the craziness of the holidays is over.

Here is what I received. Gotta love a friend who knows you love vintage and finds you great things while out treasure hunting. She found this wonderful Pyrex bowl at a thrift store. Early American pattern.

She also included this hand made cupcake. Cindy makes these out of the cuffs of wool sweaters. I love it and plan on displaying it on one of my many cake plates. So sweet.

I am very blessed with wonderful friends!

The Greens of March

Happy March!

Today I am sharing pictures of some green around my home in honor of March and St. Patrick's Day. I have collected a lot of green things over the years - as it is one of my favorite colors. I have a green living room, a green Kitchen Aid, a lot of green depression glass and of course, Green pottery. I have recently thought of painting over the green and going in a new direction....but then I look at all of my pottery on display and wonder if it will look as good in a blue or gray room...sorta doubt it.

Anyway...here is some of my green - more to come in upcoming posts.

A fun vintage card that I found while sorting through some old postcards. I love anything vintage gardening or flower related.
According to this card from Van Cleve's Flowers - the color for March is Gray or Silver and not green. Who knew?

My favorite Remington typewriter in green - purchased about 15 years ago at a yard sale for $5. At the time I thought that was pricey since vintage typewriters weren't popular then... so glad I popped on it because I have never seen another like it available at a yard sale.

Some of my green planters & pottery.

Gotta love green!
