Easter Decorations

My Easter decorations are out. I like to decorate with vintage things that I've collected over the years. These pottery planters featuring ducks and chicks are recent finds - purchased from a sweet older couple who was cleaning out and parting with some of their pottery.

Here is the whole display on top of a country cupboard in my dining room - with my egg tree, old candy tin, planters, egg boxes and postcards. The chicken print is always there - but doesn't it fit well with the egg tree?

I have always loved these natural egg trees since I saw the idea many years ago in a Martha Stewart Living magazine. I've made several of them over the years but always find that they are tough to store off season so I get rid of them and then remake another one come Spring.

Blown and dyed eggs that I made years ago hang from the branches.

I love to decorate with vintage postcards too. Of course these feature chickens & chicks!

Transformations

It was a busy weekend. I found this piece of furniture out in my neighbor's trash last Sunday. You know I love to pick the trash so I didn't want to leave it behind to get thrown away, so I took it home.

Here are the drawers.

After sanding it, we (meaning Mark) sprayed it with an oil based paint in flat black.

Here is how it turned out.

I decided to cover the raised pieces on the doors with decorative paper. The old hardware was upgraded to glass knobs.

I like how it turned out! It has been moved to the antique store and is for sale. If you live close by and are interested in this, drop me an email. I will give you a great deal :))

The weather here in Pittsburgh has been crazy beautiful for this time of year. It feels like mid-May instead of mid-March. I am considering bringing out my porch furniture and decorating the porch again. When I dropped the buffet at the antique store I spotted this. This little chair is so me. I love old metal porch furniture, kid-sized furniture & rusty junk - so of course I had to buy it!

I think it will be sweet with a pot of flowers on it.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend too.

Soup and Sandwich Sign

I bought this sign at the antique store recently. It is a chalkboard that was used for advertising  at a local restaurant that closed down. I left it as is and just hung it up in my kitchen.

It stands out against the white walls. I think it looks neat.

Folding Paper Frames

Here is a great way to use the folding paper frames that held vintage photographs.

To do what I did, remove the old photograph carefully from the frame. They are usually glued in. Replace the photo with your favorite sentiment, quote or scripture written on vintage paper. Using your own handwriting is special, or you can print from the computer.

On these examples I added some embellishments to the frames. On the frame shown in the top photo I added a skeleton key and on the photo directly above I added a flower made out of an old sewing pattern.

The frames stand up on their own.

Look for old photos in paper mats at flea markets and antique shops. They are usually pretty inexpensive and you won't mind removing the photos of people you don't know.

Antique Shop Booth

I thought I would share some pictures of the space I have in a local antique shop. I share it with my friend Cindy. If you are local the shop is Diamond Antiques in Tarentum, PA. They don't have a website yet but they are on Facebook.

For me it is just a fun hobby - sort of an extension of my collecting and thrifting. It is a fun way to connect with other people who share this hobby too and hopefully make a little spending money on the side.

Right now we are showing lots of spring planters, vintage jewelry, and kitchen items.

Thanks for visiting!
