Recent Finds

September was a pretty good month for vintage finds. Although yard sales around my area are dwindling, I was able to find all of these items - with the exception of one - at yard sales.

Anchor Hocking Fire King Bowls + one Pyrex bowl mixed in:
This set of bowls was found at a yard sale. It was the kind of sale that all the vintage collectors out there will relate to - the new stuff {a.k.a. worthless Walmart crap} was priced high, and the one vintage item that was really worth more than all of that other stuff combined - was priced low. Score!  Hubby is actually the one who found this bowl set - not me. After he brought it home we realized that one of the bowls was Pyrex. Double score!

"One of these things is not like the others"...This was the Pyrex bowl nestled amongst the others.

Also found at a yard sale - a tin trash can in red and a tin tray.

Hubby and I spent a recent Sunday morning at the flea market and this is what I came home with. I walked the entire flea looking for Pyrex. There wasn't much of it to be found, which was sort of disappointing. When I saw this I didn't hesitate. I whipped out my cash and bought it! I LOVE it. The Friendship pattern is growing on me. Maybe because it was released the same year that I was born, 1971.

Happy Day!

Recent Finds

Here are some of my recent vintage finds. I thought it would be fun to make a fancy little collage to show off these scores!

Lots of milk glass! We went to an amazing estate sale recently at the home of a collector. In the basement there where lots of shelves {picture warehouse style} loaded with vintage glassware! When we arrived at 1 in the afternoon {half off time} there was a line to get in the door and cars parked as far as the eyes could see. Some of the milk glass I bought is shown above. I am in love with the "milk glass taco". Not really sure what the official name of it is. I have the same exact thing in a cake plate. I think it is pretty neat. I can see putting Cannoli's {I am Italian after all} on there. I think that would be super cute. I will find a use- I will, I will!

The amazing finds shown above were brought to you by my hubs. a.k.a. "master junker"! He went away for the labor day holiday and happened to stop at a few yard sales & thrift shops. The McCoy pot only cost 10 cents! I kid you not. I mean what can you buy these days for a dime? Apparently you can score an awesome piece of pottery actually!

The cheese dish was made by Lefton, Japan and was FREE. "Master Junker" stumbled upon a yard sale with a sign that said "FREE Market" - instead of Flea Market. Everything was free.

The Pyrex mugs came from the Sal Army store. All four for 99 cents! Gotta love these deals!

Recent Finds

Here are few of my most recent vintage finds.

A set of vintage metal trays. I love these trays so much and when I see them I buy them. Great for fall. Found at a Habitat for Humanity Store.

Vintage "Cookie" Jar. Hubby found this at a yard sale. I love it so much. It is shaped like a coffee pot. It originally had a black lid with a fake percolator. I have decided to use it for utensils right now.

Pyrex Verde Set. Found in the original box from 1972 in someone's garage.

I've been finding pieces of Pyrex to complete sets. I almost have a complete primary "fridgie" set. The blue piece was just purchased at an antique mall in Virginia. I don't have the lid yet.

I am also working on completing my New Dots set. I found the yellow dots at an antique mall in West Virginia. Now all I need is the green dots to complete the set.

I could go to ebay and just buy the green bowl or any of the other missing pieces that I am looking for - but truthfully I enjoy the hunt as much as I enjoy owning these things. When I find a piece I have been searching for - either at a yard sale or thrift store - it is quite a rush!

Projects

Seems like I have bought quite a few "project" items lately. All of these were found in the last month or so at yard sales or thrift stores.

Vintage School Desk - desk & base to be spray painted.

This cute metal cabinet. It is a nice petite size. This will be spray painted & a new decal added. Might use this as a night stand in my daughter's room - or maybe not. I also thought this would be great in a play kitchen. Purpose to be determined later.

Cart with wheels. This was also only $2. Not quite sure why I bought this other than it was a good deal. I keep seeing similar style carts from IKEA on some of my favorite blogs. I plan to paint this a cute color and then either use it as a bar cart or craft cart.
This "chippy" mirror. The mirror has a lot of silver showing through but I am going to keep it intact. I am also not going to touch the frame - love the distressed paint. I plan on putting window screen over the mirror and using this to hang necklaces and jewelry.
And the best for last - this amazing metal glider.
This will take some sanding and painting to bring it back to life. I have a major soft spot for vintage gliders. I love them! I was very excited when my husband found this for sale online at great price.

Lots to do - but at least these are fairly easy projects to accomplish. I will show the finished results when complete.

Pottery Bounty

This past weekend I hit a few yard sales and also a flea market. I found some great vintage pottery. In one weekend of yard sales I scored 5 McCoy pieces plus a few others! For me that is unheard of. I can not turn down vintage McCoy when I can afford to buy it. It is my absolute favorite and getting harder and harder to find. Here are the pieces that I found with what I paid.

Pair of vases - yellow & white. Paid $1.00 for both.
McCoy flower pot. Paid $5. I bought this at a flea market. The seller made a point to tell me "These are collectible" - oh really?

Brush McCoy planter "bambo". I paid $1.00. I already had the bamboo flower pot in the background.

Little green vase. Not sure of the maker. Hubby found this one at a charity store. It is a very pretty green. Paid 69 cents.

Another flower pot. The sweet lady who sold us this one said she thinks it may be McCoy. I have never seen this pattern before. I really like it. It is unmarked. I paid $3.00.

Brush McCoy planter. Bought at a yard sale for $4.00. Tried to get it for less but no dice! (I had to try :)) No problem. It is def worth $4.
A baby shoe to add to my collection of pottery baby shoes. I believe this is McCoy also. Not marked. I paid $1.00.

The shelves are pretty much overflowing with pottery around here. I just can't say no to it when I find and it is so affordable. I love it and that hasn't changed over time.

Saturday Scores - Memorial Day

I'm just now getting around to posting about some of the treasures I found over the Memorial Day holiday. Memorial Day weekend is my favorite weekend for yard sales. It is sort of the unofficial kick-off of junking season in my eyes. The beginning of a bounty of summer sales to come. This year we hit a small town in Pennsylvania for their annual town-wide yard sales. We go to these yard sales every year and I always wonder in the days leading up to Saturday if this will be the year that the sales stink. I figure if a town has yard sales year in and year out that eventually all of the good vintage junk will be gone. Well this year was just as good as years past and I did find some great vintage items. Here are the highlights.

This was my first purchase of the day and in the end probably my favorite. A beautiful soft blue/green vintage pottery vase. I don't have another like it in my collection. It was love at first sight.

This cute Avon perfume bottle will sit on my dresser. It was $1. I don't usually buy Avon bottles but since I used to collect vintage plaid Thermos's I couldn't pass this up.

These cute embroidered children in plastic frames are going to be for sale in my etsy shop. I don't have a place for them in my home but I couldn't pass them up because I think they are very sweet! I know someone out there will appreciate them.
I also found some barkcloth. This is a large laundry bag. I figure I will cut it up and make it into either some pillows or a tote bag.

I also bought some Christmas elves. These two were 5 cents for both! I kid you not. They still have the Made in Japan sticker on them. I walked out of there with about 12 little elves. These will also be for sale closer to Christmas.

On the way back from yard sales we stopped at a Salvation Army store. So glad I did because I walked out with both of these. Love the teal pie plate.

In addition to yard sales we also went to a flea market. I found more treasures there. A bird planter to add to my bird collection.

Some vintage necklacesI also bought a vintage wicker basket purse. The large one in the picture is the one I bought at the flea. I have a little collection of these on display in my bedroom.

All in all a great weekend for junk! Already it is Friday and tomorrow it all starts again.

Back soon with more finds!

Status Update

Hello Friends! It has been a few weeks since I've posted. Thanks to all of you who continue to stop by to see what I've been up to. I do appreciate it. Seems like May is a very busy month for our family as the end of the school year wraps up and we are consumed with all of the activities and events that go with that. As much as I love posting here, my Mom duties have a way of keeping me off the computer.

I have been able to get to some yard sales. The pickings have been slim, but I did manage to find a few treasures.

I bought this lovely white pottery vase at a flea market this past Sunday. It only cost me $2. It is fairly large in size in comparison to the other pottery vases I have collected. It is marked USA on the bottom. I love how these lilacs look in this vase. White has become one of my favorite colors to collect in vintage pottery - especially the matte. Not sure if that is because I haven't seen much of any other colors lately to buy or because of it's simplicity.

After the flea market we spotted a yard sale sign and of course I had to check it out. It was the second day of the sale so there wasn't much left. Sorting through a box of cookbooks I came across this vintage gem. It was 25 cents. I love it. The recipes inside are great. I am looking forward to sitting down with this book and reading it cover to cover - and then trying some of the recipes.

I love looking at the pictures in these vintage cookbooks. They give you a real history of what housewives were using in their kitchens at the time. Check out this photo.

I have a soft spot for vintage glassware - and these tug at my heart strings. They are light blue. The pattern is similar to hobnail but more like bubble wrap. Not sure of its official name. I remember my grandmother having dishes like these. I have been told that she hosted luncheons at her home for her lady friends and they enjoyed delicate salads and jellos on dishes like these.

At another yard sale I scored this great Maxwell House Thermos for $1. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you have probably seen this already. I love old coffee cans and coffee advertising so this is a treasure in my book. I used to collect plaid Thermos's but ended up selling the collection when I got tired of it. I don't think I will part with this one. It will be on display in my kitchen. I have never seen another like it.

Sadly, this happened this week as well.

My laptop - pretty much ruined, but still in service until I can afford to buy another one. This is how it went down....I was carrying the laptop in my hands as I was coming down the stairs. Being the clumsy person that I am, I missed a few steps, fell, tossed the laptop into the air, it hits the wall and I hit the ground. Luckily I didn't break any bones, but now my computer screen is permanently damaged. Needless to say it is difficult to do most tasks, but if I change the size of the screen and move things back and forth a bit I can still do what I need to do. After shedding a ton of tears, receiving some very consoling words from my sweet husband and a love note from my daughter which said "don't worry mom it was old anyway" I got over it and moved on. That is life I guess.

Until next time...

Saturday Scores

Hubby and I went to a few sales this past Saturday. That is our usual routine. We get up early and hit any local garage or estate sales and are usually home by 10 am. Plus, now that my kids are older we can leave them home alone for a few hours and go without them - which is great. This is my favorite time each week - looking for junk with my favorite partner in crime. Here are some highlights of what I bought. Most everything that I bought this time will be for resale. I am committed to only keeping the things that I absolutely cannot live without.

This was my favorite find of the day. I found these at an estate sale. They were in a jar inside the kitchen cabinets - mixed in with some other random corn holders & screws. These will be for sale - although I think they are awesome and are sort of tempted to keep them.

Vintage musical jewelry box with ballerina. I love this one. My favorite thing about it is the ballerina turning in front of the triangle mirror surrounded by her "stage". This is very "shabby chic" and feminine - a style that I love. However, even though I love it, I am putting it for sale on etsy. I know it will find a home where it will be loved and appreciated by a kindred spirit.

I have been buying a lot of vintage Tupperware lately for resale. Here are my latest purchases soaking in my sink for a good cleaning. Turns out that older Tupperware is collectible. I recently bought a vintage canister set at and estate sale for $1 and turned around and sold it on eBay for quite a bit more. I am hoping that lightening will strike twice and that I will be able to sell these other pieces as well.

I also bought this Kodak Hawkeye Instamatic camera. I like these older cameras for display. I usually just sit them on my bookshelves. This one will also be for sale on etsy.

I'm going to make "Saturday Scores" a regular feature here on the blog. I hope the weather is turning warm were you are and that you are able to get out and treasure hunt too.
