Retro Lamps

Mark found this matched set of vintage lamps at a yard sale and really liked their "retro" look. 

The verdict is still out for me.

They came with their original fiberglass shades. They sort of remind me of The Jetsons.

Maybe they will just be here for a summer visit and then be on their way.

I guess I will just wait and see.

A Refreshing Summer Drink

Care to join me for a glass of cool sweet tea? Maybe we could sit on the porch for a spell.

One of my favorite summer drinks is fresh-brewed iced tea. I love The Olive Garden's peach tea so I decided to make my own version.

Add 4 or 5 bags to a pot of boiling water. Adjust this amount according to your taste. Less bags for weak tea and more bags for strong tea.

Once the tea is brewed I add a scoop of sugar (about 3/4 cup) to the warm tea. You can add more or less or none at all depending on how you like it. The tea at Olive Garden is pretty sweet.

Pour the tea into a pretty pitcher and then chill until cold.

Delicious!

Store Display

Mark surprised me by buying me this vintage store display sign.
I have been wanting one. He found it on ebay (his favorite store).

I hope to use it around the house with fun messages inside!

Here is a cute idea:

Find some of these old folding rulers. I see them at garage sales now and again. Or, you may already have one.

Now bend them into a star shape.  

You can make a large open star or a smaller star like this one. 

I have several of these around the house. I think it would be neat to hang a bunch of them on the wall in a group.

Yard Sale Treasures - Part 2

Here is Part 2 of my recently found yard sale treasures...

2 children's metal folding chairs. These were $2 each!!!! Very 1960's looking.

Retro cooler

This is what is inside, 2 freezable ice packs and an ice pick. The ice packs are metal.

A tall tole painted waste basket with lid.

I was soooo happy to find these. A pink Pyrex nesting bowl set. So 1950's!!

 Vanilla Wafers cookie tin - made in Richmond VA.

Yet another metal picnic basket.

A tiny sized vintage book with plaid cover. This will be a gift for someone I know.

Here is the inside...so charming!

Some hand-sewn fabric napkins in red and white - my favorite color scheme.

A metal store display for D-Con rat killer. 

I admit, this is a little weird. Right now I'm using it as a planter on my porch.

A tattered and torn vintage hand bag. Matches a pair of black children's shoes that I already owned.

More Yard Sale Treasures - Part 1

Memorial Day weekend was a great one for yard sales.

We saw this...

This is my favorite find of the weekend. A yellow McCoy planter. I have never seen one like this before. The best part is what is on the bottom. It appears to have the original price stamp - 49 cents - from when it was on the shelf at the 5 and 10.

This Abe Lincoln bank was bought from a very nice older lady. It wasn't priced so I asked her how much it was. She responded "Well...it's pretty old. I really like it but I need to part with some things.....(a long pause while I wait for her to tell me a very large sum of money).....how about 75 cents?". I said "How about $1?" She was cool with that. 

After watching American Picker's last night, which was all about the 

Civil War, I'm proud to own this little Abe bank in honor of what a great man Abraham Lincoln was.
