Another Cupboard

Another old cupboard has come our way. I think we are fast becoming the wayward home for old and abandoned cupboards. You may remember the last one here. Well, this one was also scored on Craigslist and it was FREE! The credit goes to Mark, the super Craigslist shopper. 

This one is dingy, smelly and rickety. The paint looks white in the photo but it is actually silver paint with lots of bubbly texture. The inside is supposed to have shelves but they are missing. That isn't a problem though - I'm married to an awesome wood worker.

You may be wondering what happened to that other cupboard. Well I sold it.  At first I thought I would keep it and restore it but needing some cash I opted to sell it on Craigslist. The couple who purchased it were happy to have it for their old farmhouse that they are restoring. In the end it went to the right place.

Leave me your comments as to what I should do with this one. Trust me when I tell you I have NO room for it! Should I paint it white? Should I keep it inside or on the porch? Or, should I just sell it? Let me know what you think.

Faithful Greetings

Today I'm sharing this darling box of vintage get well cards. I love their sweet images. I would prefer to receive one of these on a sick day more than any Hallmark card.

You can't see it from this picture but the cross has silver glitter on it. Great!

These are 2 of my favorite. I love the one with the little white church. It also has glitter.

Look for boxes of vintage cards at church rummage sales, estate sales and garage sales. They are usually very affordable. I have seen boxes of Christmas cards, birthday cards and sympathy cards before. What I love about these is their vintage pictures and soft colors. The sentiments inside are great too. Why be usual?

Another great use for vintage cards is to make gift tags with them. Just cut out tags showcasing the pretty images and then punch a hole in the top to string a ribbon through. Recycle any used greetings cards this way.

Happy Anniversary

Today is my 15th Wedding Anniversary.

Here is how we looked on that day in 1996.

It was a crazy day for sure. The weather was very, very hot for June. There was no air conditioning in the church so by the time the ceremony had began my curly hair (which was short at the time) had turned frizzy. I didn't feel very pretty that day - on the one day when you want to be the most beautiful. 

What I did do right that day was marry my best friend. I would do it all over again in a New York minute! I love him more today than I ever have.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Probably my most favorite collection has to be my vintage gardening collection.

 I bring it out each spring & summer. This year I've chosen to display it all on a corner cupboard.

Included in this collection are vintage seed packets, flower frogs and old seed catalogs. This collection makes me smile no matter when I look at it!

Shell Collection

Several years ago I bought this interesting shell collection at a yard sale. 

I was just charmed by it. It is all handmade (except for the shells of course).

I'm guessing that this belonged to a teacher. Whoever made it painstakingly designed a chart to correspond with each of the shells, labeling them by name. I love the hand writing.

By now, after years of handling and moving around, the shells have gotten jumbled and are not in the correct spots anymore.

This is another one of those things that I bring out on display for the summer. My girls love touching the seahorse. Each year that this box is brought out it is all new to them.

I am always thrilled when I find something this unique at a yard sale. Maybe I'm one of the only people out there who actually appreciate stuff like this. I'm thinking that most people would look at this and consider it trash. I on the other hand love it's charm. To me it is American folk art.

Porch Display

I like to collect seasonal items when I'm out treasuring hunting. I store them all in plastic totes labeled with the name of the season or holiday. I rotate my displays throughout the year. Here is what is out for the summer.

Croquet anyone??? Found this neat old croquet set in someone's garbage.

A collection of lawn supplies & soda pop bottles

These are old metal sprinklers. I love the yellow one on wheels.

 

This is a metal Japanese beetle trap. I love the yellow and green combination.

 Metal hose nozzles prove that just about anything can make an interesting display

My collection of glass "pop" bottles. There are many varieties in here that I've collected. For now they are inside the crate but I will bring them out at some point to show off their great graphics. They also make good flower vases.

A metal milk box. I use mine to hide the kid's toys.

A little red, white & blue. A necessity for the summer!
