Ebay

I've been selling a lot of things on ebay recently. My husband and I do the selling together and we go through phases - on again, off again. We are "on again" right now to bring in some extra money for the family and to scale back a bit. People who know me often wonder what I do with all of the stuff that I bring home from yard saleing. I guess they assume my house is cluttered and busting at the seams. Although I do have a lot of collectibles out on display, what keeps my house from getting over-run is I sell a lot of what I buy. I often bring something home and put it out on display for a bit and enjoy it. When I get tired of it or I need a change I sell it to someone else who loves vintage. Sometimes I have a yard sale. Sometimes I sell at a local antique flea market. Sometimes I ebay. I'm not a full-fledged picker yet. Mostly I just buy what I like, enjoy it and then recycle it.

Today I thought I would show you some of the things that we're selling on ebay right now.

Not sure how much this book will sell for, but I have high hopes for it. I found it at an estate sale and bought it because of the author - L. Frank Baum (writer of The Wizard of Oz). I'm not a knowledgeable bookseller or anything - I just know that sometimes old books can be worth something. I didn't pay much for it. I've been holding on to it for several months and have finally listed it on ebay for sale. I knew it had to be something good when shortly after listing it a person private messaged us and asked us to sell it to him as a "buy it now". If you ebay you know that people do this so that they can buy an item without having to participate in the auction. I think they think they can buy it for cheaper that way. We told him no. He may end up buying it for less that he offered - or not. That is the thrill (and risk) of an online auction for both buyer and seller.

This next item was sitting out in my garbage just 2 nights ago. I've had it for awhile, was going to paint it, use it, whatever. Well I got tired of looking at it sitting there unfinished and I put it out for the trash. Have you ever done that? Got sick of something and just gave up on it? Well Hubby decided he would list it on ebay. Good for him that he did. It currently has had 52 people look at it and already has a bid. He is more adventurous than me when it comes to selling and I love that. It was bought at an old barn sale a few years back.

As a collector and lover of pottery I often buy more of it than I can display. It is usually pretty inexpensive to buy so I rarely walk away from a vintage planter or vase. These two kitty planters are moving on to new homes. At a yard sale I would only expect to get a $1 for them. On ebay I am hoping to get a little bit more.

Royal Copely Siamese Cat

McCoy Cat playing with a ball

Hubby found these at a yard sale and scooped them right up. They already have a bid. Edgewater Steel was located in our hometown and is no longer in business. They aren't that old, but since the company is no longer around they have some value to people who collect advertising, local history or maybe a former employee.

I am having fun selling on ebay right now. These auctions won't close until Sunday. Until then I will enjoy watching them each day to see if they have any bids. It is my type of entertainment. If you are interested in watching too - our ebay seller name is kayteejane.

Have a great day!

Instagram

I've been having fun taking pictures with Instagram from my phone. Do you Instagram? I like how it makes the pictures look old or at least it gives them an interesting affect.

Here are some pictures of my most recent vintage finds.

I found these Pyrex refrigerator jars at a Salvation Army thrift store.

This is a new pattern for my collection. It is called "Early American" and was manufactured in the 1960's. These 2 pieces didn't have any lids with them, but I still bought them anyway. They were $3.99 each. What sold me was this kitty cat. And since I was buying the little jar I just couldn't leave the larger one behind on it's own. (I know, I am weird)

I found this "Skipper" brand soda pop wooden crate at a yard sale this past weekend. It was $3. I buy anything that I see that is "Skipper" beverages - as long as it is reasonable - because my husband's nickname growing up was "Skip" or "Skipper". They were made in Pittsburgh too, which is also part of the appeal for me.

This crate fits perfectly inside this old piece of furniture that holds my old TV. I'm probably the last person on the planet who doesn't own a flat screen yet. If you have been following my blog for a while you may remember that this "dresser" or whatever it is, was found in someone's garbage. It is perfect for holding a TV because the people who owned it before me took out the doors on the front so that it could hold electronic equipment. This crate may be used to hold DVD's. Not sure yet.

I also found another tin picnic basket to add to my tower of baskets. It is the yellow one in the middle. It was only $1. I love when I find these and they are cheap.

Tomorrow I'm hosting a yard sale at my house. I'm parting with some stuff that I don't want any more. You just have to do that from time to time when you collect like I do - or you WILL be on the show Hoarders one day.

Happy treasuring hunting this weekend!

Flowers

I wanted to show you some flowers that I made recently out of burlap and old paper. I have been wanting to make a burlap flower bouquet for some time now ever since I saw a picture of one either on etsy or in a magazine. (I can't remember where I first saw the idea exactly.) I don't have a real need for a bouquet - I'm not getting married again or anything - but that hasn't stopped me from wanting one of these for myself. It has been months since I first saw the idea and then purchased the burlap. Finally, this past Saturday we had the perfect weather for staying inside and crafting. It was a rainy, cool day here - the first we have had in a long time. Here is what was made:

Inside each bloom a piece of vintage lace is fastened by a jewel colored pin.

The bouquet is wrapped up with more burlap and some vintage crochet doilies. These are also secured with some more pretty pins for decoration.

I am very happy with how the bouquet turned out. I have it on display in my dining room right now and I'm just enjoying looking it.

Also on Saturday I made some flowers out of sheet music and vintage ledger paper.

I love these also! They were very simple and fun to make.

If anyone out there is interested in either a burlap bouquet or a vintage paper flower bouquet, please contact me and I will be happy to give you a quote for making either. You can contact me at:

These would be great for a vintage-theme wedding, country wedding or even something different for Homecoming or Prom.

Pinking Shears

Aren't these charming? I love the original packaging in soft pink, blue and black. I am drawn to vintage advertising - even if it is on the outside of a box containing a humble pair of scissors.

When I find these types of things from the past I like to display them around the home. Wouldn't these be cute sitting on a shelf in a sewing room or craft room? They are even useful!

The inside:

These were found at an estate sale inside a box of miscellaneous, discarded sewing items. We bought the entire box just for these scissors.

Find the beauty in everyday items!

Pretties

Here are some new "pretties" that have made their way home to me.

We recently bought this awesome California pottery divided dish at a yard sale. Love the aqua color! I can see this holding candy or nuts, paper clips & office stuff or on a dresser holding hair clips or jewelry. I am having a love affair with anything aqua right now. Very retro but very much in style today.

At the same sale I found this little cloth bag in a box with vintage hankies. I paid 50 cents for it. It is going to be my new cell phone holder. I think I will stitch up some of these for gifts or to sell.

Recently I found this white pottery cornucopia at a thrift store in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. They only charged me a dollar - with no tax. I love it for fall and am going to find some miniature pumpkins and ghords for inside. I am so ready for fall that I'm going to start decorating this weekend.

At another store in Gettysburg I bought this charm for a necklace. It is two-sided and I love what it says.

My thoughts exactly!

I bought this Grease jar at another yard sale this past weekend. I've been looking for one of these for years and was happy to finally find one.

I am actually going to use this! Don't judge - I know grease is a dirty word these days. I don't care. I can totally see this holding bacon grease to use in cooking.

This is on my front porch to welcome school back into session!

Lastly, I bought this several weeks ago while at the community yard sales. It is black and green chippy paint!

The top

It may not show very well in the photo but the paint peeking out from underneath the black is a sage green.

I love eye candy - don't you?
Thanks for stopping today.

Tissue Anyone?

The last week has been full due to several back-to-school shopping trips with the girls as well as trying to enjoy every last minute of Summer vacation. School started yesterday for my kids. They had a good first day. I held off buying school supplies until I saw what the kids were going to need. Well, last night we went to 3 stores - including my least fav store in the world, Walmart - to buy school supplies that my daughter needed on her list. I can tell you that I prefer shopping in thrift and vintage stores! Since when do paper folders cost so much?

Last week my mom bought me this cute "kitsch" tissue holder that she found at a local Habitat of Humanity store for $1.00. It fits in well with my green walls and lamps! Loving that a little something vintage can always brighten my day (and my decor)! You can keep Walmart!

The box was a souvenir from Miami Beach Florida.

The paper instructions were still attached! This sourvenir was made in the good ole' US of A.

Love it! Mom knows my taste well.
